Marine Science Museum |

This new museum for the marine sciences was designed for
the City of Virginia Beach and features aquariums, holding
tanks, display areas and public spaces. The project incorporated
a nature trail and site utilities. Vansant and Gusler's design
services included plumbing, fire protection, mechanical and
electrical systems. The plumbing featured gas service, fixtures,
cold and hot water, storm and DWV piping systems. Special
systems included in the design were compressed air and salt
water/fresh water piping systems for tank fill and flush with
two 15,000 gallon underground storage tanks, sand & gravel
filter systems, pumps and an 8-mode cycle for tank water exchange.
Fire protection included wet pipe sprinkler system. Mechanical
systems included a 200 ton water-cooled chiller and cooling
tower, 640 MBH gas-fired hot water boiler, pumps and piping
systems, eight variable air volume (VAV) air handling units
with shut-off VAV terminal units and controls. Electrical
design featured lighting, site lighting, power, 85 kW gas-fired
emergency generator set, fire alarm system, security system
with microwave intrusion detection, paging and intercom systems
and fire alarm. |
